What makes a man or woman burn for the Gospel? It is the restless knowledge that there is Someone greater, worth burning for. The martyr is martyred because he has caught a glimpse of the glory of God and could not remain silent!

Measuring Cup for Worship

How do you measure worship? Do you scoop it up with a measuring cup, can it be contained in a book, can words describe it? I began thinking how as believers we tend to put worship in a measuring cup of music. Can music really contain worship? Can a thimble contain the ocean? Can an Atomic particle challenge the ranks of stars and Galaxies to a feat of size and expect to win? Does the child give birth to the mother? Only when we begin to view worship not as the thing to be measured by the thing by which we measure the Measureless One. You see worship of an Infinite God cannot be contained, contrastingly, worship of finite things can be contained and put in a measuring cup. We must cease to contain worship in music and other vehicles and allow revelation to take place and see that music is contained by worship. Worship for God cannot be contained in music, but music can be contained in Worship for God. Music is limited, Worship (the kind directed solely towards Almighty God) is not limited. Music cannot measure God, but spirit and truth worship can begin to stretch the limits of our measuring cup! Stop measuring worship by music, but measure how big God is in your life by your worship!

For His Renown,
Benz

Does anyone have any further thoughts on the "worship measuring cup" philosophy?!

I have a few thoughts Ben.
I tolaly hear were you are coming from. We were made to woship. To bring glory to God is our proposs in life!!! Worship should not be an aspect of life it should be our life! True Woship can not be contained in music, Dance, reading the Bible, or even prayer. Worship should be our goal in every thing we do. Our God is worthy!!

Absolutely! What a joy it was to read this! True, God glorifying, worship is something beyong what our finite minds can contain. Yet our awe insiring, mighty, LORD is also gracious, and accepts our feeble attempts. How great is our God!

P.S. You don't know me, but I'm a friend of Shannon's and have heard a lot about you and your sister. Thanks for sharing what the Spirit's given you!

Chelsea I just read a thing by John Wesley and he said "Above all sing spiritually. Have an eye to God in every word you sing. Aim at pleasing Him more than yourself, or any other creature." That floored me. I've always admired the Wesley's and I consider them mentors of sorts in my life, yet this quote really convicted me and challenged me. I think that second sentence captures it all, Have an eye to God in every word...! It is so appropriate that the object of our affection is kept at the center of our attention. I'll probably be posting more of this quote in a while! Coming soon!

Most deffinetly! I love the part of that quote where he says, "Aim at pleasing Him more than yourself" Sometimes when we're worshiping through singing, and the worship band starts a song, we may feel a pang of disappointment, because we feel that the song is overplayed, not our style, or a slew of other things. But, worship is for bringing glory to the Creator of the Universe - not for our entertainment. So, no matter how many times you've sung that particlular song and you feel as if no more emotion can be wrung out of it, we need to remember that God does not command emotion. He commands us to love Him with all our hearts, souls, and minds, and love (an act of worship) is a choice.
